In the design of ICs (Integrated Circuits) it is usually necessary to integrate a temperature sensor. The use of this sensor can be useful in various application scenarios. For example, knowing the current operating temperature can prevent thermal damage due to overtemperature. It may also be necessary to know the current ambient temperature, for example, in order to be able to specifically influence biochemical processes in the immediate vicinity of the IC.

The focus of this work is on the design of a fully integrated temperature sensor with an analogue output signal. On the one hand, the integrated realisation requires less space, and on the other hand, the on-chip temperature, for example, can be measured more precisely, since no package influences the measurement result. The parameters dynamic range, linearity, area and energy requirements have to be weighed against each other.
